Joy gave way to rage and tears at Patti LaBelle's 60th-birthday party in the Bahamas last weekend. The R&B legend lashed out at Island Def Jam Chairman L.A. Reid for dropping her from the Def Soul label two weeks ago. "They have the right name," LaBelle, holding back tears, told guests at the Atlantis resort bash. "They must be deaf if they don't hear me." Patti's friend Ivana Trump had a succinct piece of advice: "[Bleep] them if they don't appreciate you." All the same, Patti lost it again the following night at the 70th-birthday party for resort king Sol Kerzner. Her weeping caused a star-studded crowd to show its admiration by giving her a five-minute standing ovation. Reid said through a spokeswoman yesterday, "I am sorry that Patti feels that way. I have tremendous respect for her." LaBelle was also said to be heartbroken that Usher backed out of performing at the birthday extravaganza. ;D A rep for the singer insisted yesterday, "Usher loves Patti LaBelle dearly and will always support her, however, he never agreed to appear on a television special." "That's BS," argued a source involved in the planning. "He knew from the start it was going to be on UPN" on Nov. 8. Despite Patti's heartache, she torched the house by reuniting with former groupmates Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash for their first rendition of "Lady Marmalade" in 15 years. ;D
